The scope of our activities extends from the training of persons who have never rowed before to the training and development of Olympic caliber rowers. The club has programs for recreational and competitive rowing for juniors and adults of all ages. We are located on Lake Lanier, Gainesville/Hall County, Georgia — site of the 1996 Olympic Rowing Events.
LLRC distinguishes itself from other rowing programs in the area, primarily through an emphasis on rowing technique. The individualized attention available from our coaches as well as the collective depth of experience of our membership will allow you to progress to whatever degree of proficiency you are capable. We also emphasize fellowship and working together toward common goals within the club.
LLRC is a not-for-profit organization, and all members are expected to participate in club work parties, meetings, and equipment maintenance. As a club member, access to the boathouse and use of club equipment is very flexible. Come and join us!
See what regattas and other events LLRC is hosting this year.
Who can join? These program are open to girls and boys from any high school or middle school in the area. No experience necessary! We will teach you everything you need to know about rowing.
What are the benefits? Rowing is a great sport that combines a full body workout with aerobic training. Especially for female rowers, many college scholarship opportunities are available to Division I, Division II and Ivy League schools. Lake Lanier Rowing Club also offers a small scholarship to one graduating male and one female who plan to include rowing in their college experience. Not to mention, it’s a great way to spend afternoons on the lake!
Rowing can be considered the ultimate team sport – it takes 9 people working together to get the boat to move fast (or move at all!). 100% attendance is strongly encouraged to facilitate team cohesion and improvements. If you regularly miss practices you will not only be hindering your own success, but the success of the entire team.
During the 2011 fall season there will be several Saturday morning sessions designed to provide an introduction to rowing for interested students. The winter/spring season will begin in mid-January and continue until mid-May. Scheduled dates for the intro sessions are Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 19, Dec 3. Contact the LLRC office for exact time.
Competitions:
Saturday-Sunday November 5th – 6th Head of the Hooch, (Chattanooga, TN)
One of the most unique and valuable aspects of an LLRC membership is the group practices. Members can choose to attend practices of the groups defined below appropriate to their level of commitment and abilities.
Racing Group Practices emphasize training for serious competition while also maintaining a focus on improving technique. This group is open to all members who have prior rowing experience. You do not have to have many years of rowing under your belt; just a Learn to Row class last year.
Recreational Group Practices emphasize improving technique as well as increasing speed and endurance. This group is open to all members who have prior rowing experience. If you plan on racing at a fall regatta, attendance is strongly suggested for a minimum of 15 out of the 26 practices offered.
Novice Group Practices are for 2011 Learn to Row participants. This group was formed to allow newbies to get a little more experience under their belts before joining the whole group on a regular basis. The emphasis for this group is learning how to scull, developing good technique in all boats and understanding how to develop speed. Members in this group will also be encouraged to participate in regattas at the end of their season. Please call the office for more information.

We remind our members that the care and maintenance of our equipment are the responsibility of everyone. Know and execute proper boat handling. Wipe shells down following use.
