Coaches
Jim Pickens Lake Lanier Rowing Club welcomed Jim Pickens as the Executive Director/Head Coach in August of 2008. Jim’s experience in coaching and rowing ranged from youth to masters, novice to elite. His love of rowing began on his high school team at CD Hylton in Northern Virginia on the Occoquan. During the summers he became involved with a local masters program, Prince William Rowing Club, and over the next several years worked his way towards becoming the Head Coach. While in college, Jim also served as the Assistant Coach of the University of Mary Washington’s varsity men’s and women’s programs, Assistant Coach and subsequently Head Coach of the men’s and women’s high school teams at Lake Braddock High School, and also snuck in time for rowing with future wife, Lauren, in their double. After college, Jim moved to Raleigh, NC and helped out with the University of North Carolina’s varsity women’s program, Raleigh Charter High School, and the Raleigh Rowing Center master’s group. We are so happy to welcome Jim and Lauren to our rowing community!
