Lake Lanier Rowing Club Competes at 2018 Head of the South in Augusta, GA

Lake Lanier Rowing Club had masters and junior representation this year at the Head of the South (HOTS) Regatta, Augusta, GA. Joel Wise and Junior Head Coach John Ferris safely transported our boats on the LLRC trailer once again. Our supporters included families of the rowers and we are grateful for their support and cheers. The weather, although chilly, proved to cooperate much better than our Head of the Hooch experience the weekend before.

Junior Update Junior Singles 1. Kelson Mudd -Lightweight – Kelson was the first LLRC rower of the day and took home the gold 2. Nic Mount – Nic finished with a third-place bronze in his race 3. Tinsley Newton – Tinsley rowed to a fourth-place finish in a field of 10 boats, just missing a bronze by 2 seconds. Junior Women’s 2x – Fiona Sandi and Tinsley Newton – Took a second-place silver medal in a field of 19 boats. Fiona just began rowing this fall and we have seen her progress on the water this season.

Junior Men’s 2x – 1. Nic Mount and Kelson Mudd – Nic and Kelson rowed to a third-place bronze in a field of 24 boats 2. Kason Williams and Pierce Mudd – Kason and Pierce finished 17 th in the same race. Pierce moved up from the middle school program this fall.

Junior Men’s 4x- Kelson Mudd, Daniel Tuten, Pierce Mudd and Kason Williams came 12 th in a field of 14 competing junior men’s 4x.

Masters Update Masters Mixed 8- Hoping to return for a reunion boat gold, this boat did not let LLRC down. Rowers included Jane Fisher, Cecily Kannapell, Sharon Heard, Kathy Mellette, Phil Sutton, Morgan Mellette, Rich Conrad and Michael King (returned to row with the group from North Carolina). We are grateful to GA Tech for providing us with coxswain Clara who helped the team capture the gold.

Masters Men’s 4x- Morgan Mellette, Rich Conrad, Michael King and Phil Sutton brought home a bronze for LLRC

Masters Women’s 4x – Melanie Smith, Christina Rich, Susan Hinson and Terry Sylvester took home the silver

Master’s Women’s 2x- Three LLRC women’s boats competed in a field of six boats. Sharon Heard and Cecily Kannapell captured a silver medal, Jane Fisher and Terry Sylvester came in fourth and Susan Hinson and Christina Rich came in 6 th . Susan and Christina joined the racing team this year having completed the Lake Lanier Rowing Club Learn-to-Row Program. Congratulations to all LLRC rowers. Many thanks to Coaches John Ferris and Bill Akins for leading the Lake Lanier Juniors and Masters’ crews. We are grateful for their leadership and coaching. Joel and John delivered the boats back safe and sound to LLRC.
